Every Christian is told to read their Bible, but why? It more than a command, it’s even more than a directive. Reading God’s Word is our life line.
Why Read the Bible?
Holy Scripture feeds the thirsty soul, revives the troubled heart and refreshes the tired body. Emaciated souls seek it, hardened hearts miss it, and many dwell in darkness without it.
What is direct, personal and intimate communication from God to us? It’s clear, unchangeable and always available. It blasts darkness from the soul. It’s the truth – nothing but the truth.
What moves smoothly from the spirit to the heart and then to the mind gifting wisdom – giving understanding? We know what we would never know. We’re led, directed, corrected and counseled in the truth.
What does God use to reveal His thoughts and allow us the discovery of His character? We’re refreshed, nourished and revived by reading it, believing it and accepting it. Our heart-sight sees what the eyes are incapable of seeing. We see God high and lifted up. Our hearts burn within us.
So, why should a Christian read the Bible?
God’s Word is the medium He chooses to reveal Himself – to communicate. Those who find it find a treasure of great price. Those who find it find God.
In the beginning was the Word, and Word was with God and the Word was God…The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. John 1:1 NIV
