If we were to meet tonight over a cup of coffee and a muffin, what would you say if I asked you a personal question?
What would you say if I asked you what you thought about God? Who is God?
Here’s what I’ve discovered.
We can trust Him. When we call to Him, He is not going to turn away. His character doesn’t change because of troubled waters or stinging rain.
But I call to God and the Lord saves me. Evening and morning, and noon I cry out in distress and He hears my voice. Psalm 55:16-17 NIV
He is God who hears.
Nothing surprises Him – nothing escapes Him. The sooner we understand this about Him then, the sooner we will willing trust Him. It is no happenstance that we’re told to keep our eyes on Jesus, the Author, and Finisher of our faith.
I cry out to God Most High, to God, who fulfills His purpose for me. Psalm 57:2 NIV
He is Sovereign.
God carries us from the day of our birth until the day we will meet Him face-to-face. He knows our life from the beginning to the end. He’s written in His book all the days marked out for us before they even happen. His plan is to bless us.
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Hebrews 12:1 NIV
He is gracious.
An attitude of thankfulness is easier when we take His hand day-by-day. Acceptance replaces complaining, and faith rises in our hearts. This approach is only possible because we honestly trust Him no matter what happens.
When I am afraid, I will trust in You. In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I will not be afraid. What can mortal man do to me? Psalm 56:3-4 NIV
He is trustworthy
Hard times – hard go, but allows trials and even persecution – things we do not understand – to cross our paths. But I am grateful to trust Him. He’s making something beautiful in our struggle. He is still in the rescuing business.
I am under vows to You, O God; I will present my thank offerings to You. For You have delivered me from death and my feet from stumbling, that I may walk before God in the light of life. Psalm 56:12-13 NIV
He is good.
How comforting it is to know that He knows. He bears our grief, carries our sorrows and forgives us of our sin. Nothing is too difficult for God.
Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. I Peter 5:7 NIV
He is our help in times of trouble.
He takes all our pain, experiencing it to the full. We are not alone. He feels with us our hurt, confusion, and struggle. It does not paralyze Him or surprise Him. He turns them into good, strengthening our body and refreshing our soul. He uses them to reveal our true self and remove what so easily separates us.
God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Psalm 46:1 NIV
He is faithful in His faithfulness.
Here is a trustworthy saying:
If we died with Him,
we will also live with Him;
if we endure,
we will also reign with Him.
If we disown Him,
He will also disown us;
if we are faithless,
He remains faithful,
for He cannot disown Himself. 2 Timothy 2:11-13 NIV
In my search for answers, I humbly bow in prayer:
I thank You for You! I’m grateful that all my past circumstances were permitted by You to make me see my need for You. I’ve been prepared to receive Your word in my heart. Thank You for drawing me to You. I find peace in your great purposes for me.
I rejoice for You are the Blessed Controller of everything that happens in my life. Thank You for Your love and guidance. Here I am secure even if I’m not aware of it. You are here.
Right here and now, I lay down my complaints, worry and anxiety at Your feet. They’ve done me no good. I yield to You and relinquish all rights to self. You are my God, and I am Your daughter.
Father, I chose to lean in and trust You. I trust You completely. I trust You now.
In Jesus name, I pray,
In the silence of the Secret Place He whispers to my yielded heart:
“I love you. Be strong and of good courage for I have overcome the world. Peace. Be still your troubled heart. I will never fail you nor forsake you. Draw near to Me and I will draw near you. Nothing you’ve done or will do can cause me to love you any less or any more. I love with an everlasting love. My grace is sufficient for you. Trust Me and see.
What I discovered is the truth.
If anyone asks me who God is, I will, without hesitation say,
“He is my all in all.”
How about you? What will you say?
Yours in Him,
