Starting the New Year Right?

Starting the New Year Right?

The year’s ending. How are you planning on starting the New Year?  Are you looking to the past for answers for the future? Some of us wonder if it was a good year or not, some of us already have the answer.

Not.

We fill the pages of the calendar hoping to squeeze out the bad and fill it with something good. The truth is we’re not in control. We can plan, establish goals and even set appointments, but without God, it is all in vain. But there is good news: God is Sovereign.

Our times are in His hands (Psalm 31:15)

As for God, His ways are perfect: The Lord’s word is flawless; He shields all who take refuge in Him. (Psalm 18:30)

If we come to trust Him who holds our future then it starts with a new heart. Let us all ask the most important new year request:

Let us ask this important new year request: “Lord, Sir! Give me a new heart to know you more intimately and follow hard after You.

He answers in pure love and assurance:

I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. Ezekiel 36:26 NIV

Lord, Create in Me a New Heart

How, you ask
Do I find this yielded heart?
How do I enter in?
How do I know Him?

It is intimate
Personal
Real

Found
In God alone
Not ten easy steps
Nor repeated prayer

Found in the silence
Realized in the Secret Place
Under the shadow of the Almighty

The “self” laid low
God reigning on high

There is no yielding
Without Him
No yielding
Without trust

Dare we choose our own way?
Trust our own judgment.”
The “self” has had her way
too long

She cannot be trusted
Let her go

Come
Come before the Lord
In the silence
Of your soul

Broken
Helpless
Alone

It is costly
Painful
A great reward

Yield!

In return
You’re enriched
Renewed

Purified
Separated
God’s own child

You know
The compass set at true North
A heart hearing
The still small voice

You’re transformed!

He hears the beating of your heart
And your trembling lips
Cry, “Here I am, Lord.”

He draws near

In the hushed silence
Of your soul
He moves to heal
You move to worship

He must become more
You less

Wait
Wait on Him

Watch
Watch as He births
In you
A new heart

A yielded heart
Beating now to the rhythm
Of the Master

The Spirit flows freely
In the yielded heart
The trembling soul
Finds relief

Turn
Turn to Him in awe
In reverence
Love
He is your all in all

Eyes open to see
Ears ready to hear
Mind cleared to know
Heart transformed

He is here!

How, you ask
Do I find this yielded heart?

I say in the birthing
Of your new heart.

One step forward
He does the rest

Amen!

Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Psalm 51:10 NIV

Reflection:

How are you starting the New Year? A new heart?
