Jesus calls me His friend. I value true friendship so I was thrilled to find out about our friendship.
My husband was my friend before we got married 40 years ago. He’s still my best friend. He trusts me. I trust him. I have “forever friends, and I treasure their friendship. When we meet, it is as if no time has separated us. They trust me. I trust them.
There’s a friend I haven’t acknowledged as “friend”.
I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you. John 15:15 NIV
I call Him, “Lord.”
I call Him, “Sir.”
He calls me, “Friend”?
Does He trust me?
The woman at the well didn’t know Him, at first, until He made Himself known. When the truth dawned on her, she couldn’t contain it. She boldly went into the village telling everyone, “Come. See the man…”
Those who know Him in Spirit and truth, worship Him in Spirit and Truth.
And yet, Jesus calls me friend?
I know He is faithful in His faithfulness and trustworthy in His trustworthiness. I know Him as Savior, Redeemer, and Healer, but do I know Him as “friend”?
But there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. Proverbs 18:24b NKJV
He makes Himself known to the seeking heart. Intimate. Real. This is an intimate, real friendship. The mere thought of it is overwhelming. My heart burns within me.
He calls me “friend!”
I trust Him with all my heart. Who has ever forsaken a real friend?
Those who know Your name trust in You, for You, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek You. Psalm 9:10 NIV
Knowing Him By Name
The Great “I am.”
The Lord of Hosts
Can we know Him?
Really know Him?
Know Him by name?
Unless He chooses to reveal Himself
He is unknown
But to the true seeker, He shows up
Touching hearts and minds
He calls them “friend.”
Sight for blind eyes
Song for deaf ears
God touching the trembling soul
He calls us “friends.
Secure in His hand
Peace in the storm
Trustworthy in His love
God is faithful
Faithful in His friendship
The Great Shepard
The True Vine
When we move to worship
He moves to make Himself known
He does not draw back
He does not draw back from His friend
The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.”
Emancipation from God is slavery to death
It’s only an illusion of freedom
There’s no victory in the rebel yell
They do not know Him as friend
Slow to anger
Abounding in love
Great in mercy
If I didn’t call Him “God.”
He would still be God
What tragedy indeed
Not to know Him as God
Not to know Him as Friend
Knowing Him changes me
Knowing Him, by name, transforms me
Knowing Him as “friend” makes all the difference in the world
Who we think He is irrelevant
But, to know Him in truth is everything
To know Him is eternal life!
I call Him “Friend”!
What do you think? Does this thought excite you as much as it does me? Please join in on the conversation and let me know.
Now this is eternal life that they know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom You have sent. John 17:3
Yours in Him,
